Our Services

Aside from just boats, we offer a multitude of services. We are eager to learn, and eager to share.

  1. Engineering

One of our core strength is the capability to engineer in-house, making customisation of our base platforms quick and flexible. When necessary our vast network of specialised engineers are at our fingertips for support and further improvement.

  2. Design

A practical and functional boat does not have to be bad looking. We always focus on good looks next to the practical particulars. We can also advise on the design process in the preliminary stages of your project.

  3. Project management

Project management is a key strength. We support clients and other builders in setting up the documentation structures and processes to get to a manageable project.

  4. Charter and fleet management

Most of our boats are available for charter. Next to that we also offer fleet management of your boats, tracking maintenance, locations and adaptations of the vessels for your own boats.

Our Vision

At Essential Marine, our vision is to be the leading partner for commercial operators worldwide, delivering RIBs and workboats that set the standard for reliability, safety, and efficiency. We strive to empower maritime professionals by providing innovative and durable vessels that meet the evolving needs of the industry. Through continuous improvement and a commitment to proven technologies, we aim to enhance operational capabilities while prioritizing sustainable practices. Our goal is to develop new markets and technologies that contribute to a more eco-conscious future, helping our clients operate efficiently and responsibly on the water.

Process

How we work

Every boat starts as a job to be done, not a model number. This is the route from your requirement to a vessel on the water.

1. Requirements

We start with the work, not the boat. Where do you operate, in what conditions, with how many people and what equipment? What has frustrated you about your current craft? Everything downstream follows from this conversation.

2. Concept and general arrangement

We translate the requirement into a layout and a hull. You see the general arrangement, weight estimate and stability data, and we adjust until the boat matches the operation.

3. Engineering

Scantlings to DNV workboat rules, structural detailing, systems routing. Where a craft calls for specialist knowledge, we work with naval architects who specialise in that type. Nothing is left to be figured out on the shop floor.

4. Build

Hull and superstructure in our own yard in IJmuiden. You are welcome to visit during the build — most clients do, and it usually improves the boat.

5. Outfitting and systems

Propulsion, navigation, electrical, hydraulics and deck equipment integrated as one package by one responsible party.

6. Sea trial and handover

We test before you do. Speed, handling, systems and safety are checked and documented, and we hand over with training for your crew.

7. Service

Warranty support and technical assistance directly from the people who built the boat. Refits, repowering and modifications years later, on the same craft.

Typical lead time depends on size and specification — talk to us early and we will tell you honestly what is realistic.

Track record

Where our boats work

Essential Marine builds for operators who use their boats hard. The experience behind the yard runs from naval and coastguard craft to windfarm support, and it shows in how the boats are put together.

Navy, coastguard and patrol

Before founding Essential Marine, Michiel Guis built coastal guard boats for the Belgian Armed Forces, training craft for the Norwegian Naval Academy and interceptors for the Portuguese Navy. That background shapes how we approach patrol, interception and inspection work today.

Windfarm and offshore support

Crew transfer, guard and standby duties, and support for unmanned surface vessels. The Custodian 1100C and 1300C are built for exactly this: bow boarding, working deck load, seakeeping when the weather does not cooperate.

Dive and survey

Dive support with SRP, survey desks, moonpools, A-frames and pole mounts. Deck layouts are set up for the equipment rather than the other way round.

Pilot and harbour

Pilot transfer, harbour duties and tender services, where a soft ride and predictable handling matter more than a headline top speed.

Sailing and leisure

Coach and support boats for sailing programmes, and fast tenders for owners who want a workboat's build quality without the workboat's compromises.

Whatever sector you operate in, the question is the same: what does the boat have to do? Request a quote.
